WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The track & field student-athletes donated nearly $1,000 of their own money to sponsor a family during the holiday season. The Boilermakers bought and wrapped gifts for the family and will provide a Christmas dinner, which will be delivered Sunday night.

The team has been active in the community during Lonnie Greene's five years as head coach. The Boilermakers have participated in the event every year since he took over in 2012.

Greene's Boilermakers collected money over the first couple weeks of the month and gave up time during their weekends to buy and wrap the gifts for the local family of four.

Greene and the Boilermakers plan to continue hosting the event for as long as he is at Purdue.

The Boilermakers return to the track Jan. 6 and 7 to host the Gene Edmonds Invitational.
