SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Four Boilermakers each won a pair of individual events, but the Purdue swimming & diving teams came up on the short of the team scoring in dual meet action at nationally ranked Notre Dame on Friday.

The Purdue women were able to post victories against Miami (Fla.) and Rutgers in the quad-meet duals. However, the Boilermakers' streak of seven straight dual meet wins vs. No. 24 UND came to an end.

The men's dual was the most competitive of the meet and was still in doubt as the final few individual events played out. But the 16th-ranked Fighting Irish closed the meet with wins in the 100 butterfly, 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle relay to clinch a 165-135 victory. The Purdue men entered the night having won seven of the last eight duals with UND.

Marat Amaltdinov (100 & 200 breast), Steele Johnson (1-meter & 3-meter diving), Nick McDowell (500 & 1,000 free) and Kaersten Meitz (500 & 1,000 free) all won two events. Meitz also finished as the runner-up in the 200 free, competing in the 1,000 and 200 back-to-back early in the meet.

McDowell has won all six individual events in which he has competed early this season. Johnson improved to 5-for-6 in springboard diving events this year, again surpassing the 400-point total on both of his lists Friday. Meitz has also won five individual events so far this year and finished second in the other two in which she raced.

Led by Amaltdinov, the Purdue men dominated the breaststroke events. Chris Bals finished second to his teammate in both races and James Nguyen was third in the 200 to give the Boilermakers a 1-2-3 showing.

Meagan Lim was the Purdue women's top finisher in three events (100 & 200 fly, 200 IM). She was the runner-up in 200 IM to lead a 2-3-4 finish for the Boilermakers. Emily Meckstroth took second behind Meitz in the 1,000 free to give Purdue a 1-2 showing. Highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke, Jackie Smailis was also the team's top finisher in multiple events.

Filip Bujoczek (100 & 200 free) and Adam Noens (200 back, 200 IM) were the Purdue men's top finishers in two events apiece. Noens led a 2-3-4 finish for the Boilermakers in the 200 back.

Purdue's only event victories of the night were the ones posted by the double-winner quartet. That coupled with four runner-up showings in the meet's relays ultimately cost the Boilermakers in the team scoring with the Fighting Irish.

Purdue returns to action next Friday (Nov. 4) for a triple dual in Iowa City against Missouri State and the host Hawkeyes. Action begins at 3 p.m. ET.
