WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's basketball sophomore class was the highest-ranked recruiting group in head coach Sharon Versyp's 10 years with the Boilermakers, and they've already shown why they are such a special group. The quartet teamed to make some of the top marks in the freshman record books, and aim to take aim at several more on the sophomore lists in 2016-17.
Indianapolis-area natives Abby Abel and Dominique McBryde, South Bend-product Tiara Murphy and Louisville's Nora Kiesler appeared in a combined 89 games in 2015-16, each logging some memorable performances along the way. Abel's first career appearance against Incarnate Word brought the Mackey faithful to its feet, while Murphy spurred an impressive effort against Louisville at the Gulf Coast Showcase with a pair of 3's in a 62-60 victory. Kiesler matched a 27-year old freshman record at Purdue, while McBryde became the first Boilermaker freshman to hit a pair of statistical milestones in years.
The Boilermakers' exhibition opener is set for Sunday, Nov. 6, at Mackey Arena against visiting Ursuline College at 2 p.m. ET.
