Deborah Suarez Makes Season Debut

Oct. 21, 2016

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The women's tennis team competes in its second fall tournament starting today; Rafaella Baquerizo, Marta Ruedas, Alex Sabe and Deborah Suarez will all play in both the singles and doubles draw at the IU Regional. For Suarez, this is her first appearance of the 2016-2017 season as she did not compete in the Purdue Invite two weeks ago.

The three others are looking to make a better showing this weekend than in their season debuts; collectively the team went 3-6 in singles and 2-4 in doubles. Sabe provided Purdue its strongest performance, contributing two of the three singles victories and an appearance in the flight B championship match. In doubles, the trio were joined by teammate Paola Maza and went 2-4; each win coming in the opening round.

The three-day tournament in Bloomington, Indiana, features 9 different schools, including Miami Ohio, Marquette, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Southern Illinois, Tennessee, Western Michigan and host Indiana. Miami Ohio is the only team that Purdue has already played against this year; Sabe defeated Hannah Shteyn 6-0, 6-2 in the Boilermaker's first collegiate singles match.
