Final Symetra Tour Standings / Symetra Tour Championship Release
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Former Purdue women's golf standout Laura Gonzalez Escallon wrapped up an incredible season on the Symetra Tour by earning her LPGA Tour Card for the 2017 season over the weekend. Gonzalez Escallon shot 13-under to place third at the Symetra Tour Championship, presented by IOA at Alaqua Country Club in Longwood, Florida, jumping from 11th to fifth on the Volvik Race for the Card money list with $77,997 for the season.
Gonzalez Escallon played nearly perfect golf over the four-day tournament, hitting 44-of-52 fairways, 59-of-72 greens in regulation and pocketing 19 birdies. After an opening-round, two-under, 70, Thursday, she made her big move Friday, firing seven-under, 64, to bound up the leaderboard. She made one of her scarce bogeys on the par-four No. 5, and proceeded to make birdie on eight of the last 13 holes, including five in a row on holes No. 13-17.
The two-time Big Ten Champion turned a solid round of even-par, 71, Saturday, and finished up with a bogey-free, four-under, 67, Sunday to secure third place overall and make the move into the top-10 of the final season money list.
"I feel great," Gonzalez Escallon said. "I had a goal set in my mind and I pretty much did it so I feel so good. I had a good talk with my coach yesterday and he said keep playing your game and relax and it went well."
Gonzalez Escallon joins several Boilermakers on the LPGA Tour next season, including former teammates Paula Reto and Maude-Aimee LeBlanc, who rank 73rd and 80th, respectively on the current LPGA money list.
