Purdue Trio to Attend B1G Media Day

Oct. 6, 2016

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Big Ten Conference has announced that juniors Vincent Edwards and Isaac Haas and sophomore Caleb Swanigan, along with head coach Matt Painter, will represent Purdue at the 2016 Big Ten Basketball Media Day, held in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 13.

For the first time in league history, the event moves east to the Nation's Capital, where the season-ending Big Ten Tournament will be played from March 8 to 12, in the Verizon Center.

Edwards, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward from Middletown, Ohio, was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection a year ago and is Purdue's leading returning scorer at 11.3 points per game. He is the only player in Purdue history to have amassed 675 points, 325 rebounds and 175 assists by the conclusion of his sophomore season, and is 1-of-2 active players nationally to have scored at least 675 points with 325 rebounds, 175 assists with 75 made 3-pointers by the end of his sophomore season (Edwards, Oregon's Dillon Brooks). Edwards also led the team in assists (100) and 3-pointers made (46) and was third in rebounding (5.4 RPG). He has led the team in assists in each of his first two years at Purdue.

Haas, a 7-foot-2, 290-pound center from Hokes Bluff, Alabama, averaged 9.8 points per game in just 14.3 minutes per contest as a sophomore. He led the Big Ten a year ago in points / 40 minutes (27.4) and shot almost 60.0 percent from the field (59.4) for the season. During the postseason, he scored 38 points in 47 minutes and shot 16-of-23 (.696) from the field in four games of action.

Swanigan averaged 10.2 points per game and led the Big Ten in rebounding in all games played (8.3 RPG) a year ago, en route to earning a spot on the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team. Swanigan set a school record for double-doubles by a freshman (8) and was 1-of-3 freshmen nationally with at least 340 points, 280 rebounds, 60 assists and 20 made 3-pointers. His 8.3 rebounds per game were the sixth most by a Big Ten freshman since the 1993-94 season.

The Boilermakers return three starters and eight letterwinners from last year's team that posted a 26-9 record and was ranked in the nation's top 25 all year long. This year's team is ranked in the top 20 of nearly all preseason polls.
