WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Only seven Boilermakers participated in the team's home invitational last weekend, but all nine are hitting the road Friday to compete in a pair of tournaments.
Freshman Athell Bennett and senior Ricky Medinilla are scheduled to appear first in the singles prequalifying draw of the ITA Men's All Americans Championships. Bennett is coming off of a 3-1 run in the Purdue Fall Invitational, dropping only the championship match to Ball State veteran, Lucas Andersen; Medinilla, however, has rested since his showing at the $50K Challenger two weeks ago. Both players' matches take place Saturday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Also competing at the All Americans are redshirt junior Gergely Madarasz and redshirt senior Benjamin Ugarte. Madarasz is already slated in the main draw beginning Oct. 6, while Ugarte will have to earn a spot from the qualifying draw. His first match is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 3. Also that day, Madarazs and Medinilla will compete in the doubles qualifying draw.
The remainder of the team is traveling to Toledo, Ohio, for the UT Rocket Invitational. Currently, they are slated to play a combination of Duquesne, Michigan, Toledo and Western Michigan in a hidden-dual format. Because Purdue is only sending five players though, the team will split and join members of Michigan. A full schedule - as it stands today - is listed below.
