WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team opens up the 2016-17 season ranked No. 15 in the nation by Golfweek.com in its inaugural poll, published Friday. It marks the second straight year the Boilermakers' have garnered a top-20 mark in the opening poll of the season.
The Boilermakers are coming off of their second straight Minnesota Invitational title, tying for first place with No. 16 Furman at the Minikahda Club last week in Minneapolis. Junior Marta Martin turned in her top individual placement in her collegiate career, tying for third place at one-over, 217, for the tournament, while senior August Kim tied for fifth at two-over, 218. Junior Linn Andersson made it three Boilermakers in the top-10, tying for 10th at five-over, 221, marking the first tournament for the Boilermakers with three individuals in the top-10 since the 2013 Butler Fall Invitational.
Alabama garnered the top team spot in the first poll of the season, followed by Florida, Oklahoma State, Kent State and Big Ten rival Illinois in fifth. Other Big Ten teams in the top-25 include No. 8 Northwestern, No. 11 Maryland and No. 22 Ohio State.
The Boilermakers return to action Monday, Oct. 3, heading to Golf, Illinois for the Windy City Collegiate Classic, hosted by Northwestern.
