Parriott Wins Greco-Roman, Freestyle Titles

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Incoming Purdue wrestling freshman Griffin Parriott dominated his way through the ASICS/Vaughan Junior National Championships as one of two wrestlers to claim both Greco-Roman and freestyle titles. Parriott took top honors at 152 pounds in both styles while competing in the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota, last week.

The New Prague, Minnesota, native, went 14-0 with 10 technical falls and outscoring the opposition 140-8 as he cruised through both brackets.

First in Greco-Roman competition, Parriott posted a 7-0 mark with four shutout technical falls and three decisions. He used a 9-2 decision to win the title over Zeuma Baptista (Nebraska). In seven matches, Parriott had a 71-6 scoring edge.

Parriott's relentless style was unwavered moving into freestyle. Six of his seven wins were technical falls and he only gave up two points, outscoring opponents 69-2. The championship match vs. Zander Wick (California) was all Parriott with a dominating 10-0 technical fall.
