Zach Tanelli Named Columbia Head Coach

July 21, 2016

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Zach Tanelli was named the Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling at Columbia on Thursday. Tanelli was an assistant wrestling coach at Purdue the past two seasons.

"Zach is very deserving of this opportunity," Purdue head wrestling coach Tony Ersland said. "Zach has been instrumental in building our program's foundation. I want to thank him for all of his hard work and dedication to Purdue wrestling. We wish Zach all the best."

During his time with the Boilermakers, Tanelli coached 11 NCAA Championships qualifiers and eight Big Ten Championships placewinners. He was in the corner as Purdue crowned its first Midlands Championships titlist since 1963 and just the second Midlands champ in program history in Chad Welch. Eighteen Boilermaker wrestlers earned Academic All-Big Ten Conference accolades during Tanelli's tenure, including a program-high 10 in 2016.
