CenturyLink Center / Omaha, Nebraska
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Sixteen Boilermakers will represent Purdue at USA Swimming's Olympic Team Trials, beginning June 26 in Omaha.
Preliminary heats begin daily at 11 a.m. ET. The top 16 finishers advance to the semifinals, which are held in the 7:45 p.m. ET evening sessions. The top eight finals qualifiers race the following night. NBCSN will be televising highlights of the preliminaries each night leading up to NBC's live coverage of the evening sessions starting at 8 p.m. ET. The prelims will also be available live on NBCsports.com and the NBC Sports Live Extra app.
June 25 Update: National Letter of Intent signee Natalie Mudd (100m back) is also racing at the Olympic Trials. She'll join the Boilermakers this fall as a freshman.
Purdue's list of qualifiers includes 10 men and six women. Of the 16 qualifiers, seven are active Boilermakers set to return for the 2016-17 school year -- Austin Flager, Wesley McGovern, Emily Meckstroth, Kaersten Meitz, Alex Toetz, Joe Young and Eddy Zawatski.
Among the nine Purdue alumni scheduled to compete, three (Allie Davis, Emily Fogle and Adam Johnston) closed out their college careers this year and six others (Chuck Destro, Wyatt Hodges, Carly Mercer, Danny Tanner, Kylie Vogel and Sam Wilcher) have continued training and swimming competitively since graduating a few years ago.
Davis qualified in a Purdue-high four events -- the 100- through 800-meter freestyle. Mercer and Meitz both qualified in three events. Fogle, Tucker and Young will also have the opportunity to race in multiple events.
The Boilermakers will be represented in 14 events. Purdue swimmers will race in three different events on three separate dates -- June 27, June 30 and July 1. Eight Boilermakers are scheduled to compete on both June 27 and July 1.
Davis (20th in 400 free, 27th in 200 free), Fogle (23rd in 200 breast, 28th in 100 breast), Meitz (28th in 800 free) and Tucker (28th in 50 free) are all seeded among the top 30 in at least one event.
Destro, Fogle, Hodges and Tucker all return to the Olympic Trials after also racing as part of Boilermaker Aquatics and Purdue's travel party in 2012. Fogle's 28th-place finish (of 152) in the prelims of the 100-meter breaststroke was the Boilermakers' top individual showing four years ago. Tucker, Destro and Hodges also posted a top-50 showing to finish among at least the top 40 percent of the competitors in the event.
This page will be updated with times and finishes throughout the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
