WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. --Purdue's Dylan Lydy won a pair of wrestleback matches at the UWW Junior Men's Freestyle Junior World Team Trials on Sunday at the Irving Convention Center in Irving, Texas. Lydy, who redshirted his first year at Purdue, wrestled at 74 kg under the Boilermaker RTC.
The opening round saw the Indianapolis, Indiana, native suffer a 3-1 setback to Joey Gunther of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club, sending him into the consolation bracket.
Lydy followed a first round wrestleback bye with an 8-2 decision of Kimball Bastian of the Wolverine Wrestling Club. He then edged Minnesota Storm's Larry Early III 9-8 in the quarterfinals. Lydy was derailed in the consolation semifinals by Logan Massa of the Michigan RTC with a 13-0 technical fall.
The Boilermaker RTC will send 18 Purdue wrestlers to the ASICS University Nationals June 2 to 5 in Akron, Ohio.
