CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Senior Lilly Fecho pitched the second no-hitter of her career, striking out 11 and allowing just one walk, in an 8-0 run-rule victory over St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
The Boilermaker bats backed up Fecho's pitching with eight runs on 12 hits and an error, including two-hit days by seniors Katie Harrison and Sydney Pencek. Harrison belted her fourth home run of the season, while Pencek capped the game with the final RBI single.
Fecho (9-3) also upped her career tally to 700 strikeouts, 28 shy of Suzie Rzegocki's record in the complete-game effort. A two-out walk in the first was the only marr in the game, which marked the 16th no-hitter in program lore. Alexis Sloat (0-1) was saddled with the loss for St. Bonaventure. Jasmine Petrishin pitched the final two thirds of an inning for the Bonnies.
Harrison tallied the first hit of the game, tapping a single off the fence in left center in the first inning.
Freshman Heather Knight bounced a single up the middle in the second, but was out on a fielder's choice play that put senior Paris Andrew aboard. Andrew swiped second as the defense failed to get the ball in and went to third on a wild pitch, but the Boilermakers left her stranded.
Purdue broke onto the scoreboard in the fourth, combining doubles by freshman Mallory Baker and Lauren Stewart and a sacrifice fly by Knight.
The Boilermakers broke the game open with seven runs on eight hits and an error in the fifth. Senior CJ Parsons was hit by a pitch to start the stanza. Pencek followed with a single. Pinch runner Maya Hughes and Pencek pulled off a double steal setting the table for an RBI single to right center by senior Kristen Hoppman. An errant throw on the play allowed Pencek to score as well, while Hoppman advanced to third. A wild pitch from Petrishin, who had just entered the game, made it 4-0. Senior Mary Gooding sent a single through the right side and promptly came home as Harrison launched a two-run shot over the center field wall. A pinch hit single by sophomore Kaylah Hampton, a bunt single by Andrew and a wild pitch set up an RBI bunt single by Hughes. Pencek closed out the win by flaring a single into shallow right field.
Purdue (12-7) returns to action on Saturday, March 12, when it faces Utah and UCF in Orlando at the UCF Spring Fling.
