Day One Results / Round Three Tee Times

MINNEAPOLIS - The Purdue women's golf team got out to a great start and leads the field after two rounds at the Minnesota Invitational, played at the Minikahda Club on Monday. The Boilermakers are 10-over par (287-299=586) on the strength of a first-round one-under, 287, led by sophomore Linn Andersson, who sits tied for second at three-under par, 141.

The Boilermakers got out to a fast start, making eight birdies over the first six holes, including three apiece by Andersson and senior Anna Appert Lund. Appert Lund carried the hot streak on to the back nine, where she made two more birdies and finished the opening round at three-under, 69, and was tied for second, individually, after the first 18 holes. Junior August Kim and Andersson finished right behind her at two-under, 70, and one-under, 71, respectively, as Kim played the first round bogey-free. Sophomore Marta Martin and freshman Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri halved the final scoring spot for the round, shooting matching scores of five-over, 77.

The second round proved a little tougher for the Old Gold and Black, but they did enough to hold on to the top spot in the team standings. Andersson repeated her performance on the front nine, sinking three more birdies, while Martin and Putri sank two birdies apiece to sit one-over and two-over, respectively. Andersson dropped in two more birdies on the back nine to finish two-under, 70, for the round and three-under for the day, while Putri was one-over par down the stretch to come in at three-over, 75, for the Boilermakers' No. 2 score of the round. Martin and Kim posted the third and fourth team scores for the round, both shooting five-over, 77.

Kim joins Andersson in the top-10 of the individual standings, sitting tied for ninth at three-over, 147, while Appert Lund is just outside, in 12th at four-over, 148. Purdue leads East Carolina and Illinois in the team race, which sit second and third at 14-over, 590, and 16-over, 592, respectively. Minnesota's Celia Kuenster leads the individual standings at four-under par, 140, while Colorado's Esther Lee and F. Gustafsson Spang of East Carolina are tied for second with Andersson. Kentucky's Megan Kinney highlighted the day with an ace on the sixth hole in the second round.

Play concludes tomorrow with the final round as the Boilermakers chase their first team title since the 2013 Butler Invitational. Purdue will be paired with East Carolina and Illinois for the final 18, scheduled for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CT.
