WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬" Setter/hitter Val Nichol has signed a contract to play professionally for Allianz MTV Stuttgart in Germany. Nichol, a four-year starter for the Boilers, will be the second setter on the team.
"I am very thankful to be able to continue to play volleyball at such a high level," Nichols said. "I am looking forward to the experience of playing in a different country. This team got second in the best league in Germany last season and I love the challenge of improving that this season."
On its website, the team calls Nichol "one of the biggest young talents in this position in American college sports." Allianz MTV Stuttgart features just 12 players on its 2015-16 roster. Canadian Caroline Jarmoc, a middle blocker from the University of Kansas, who played in the Polish league at PGNiG Nafta Pila last year, also is new to the team this season.
The Allianz roster features three other Americans: outside hitter Heather Meyers (Oregon 2010), libero Tamari Miyashiro (Washington 2009; Team USA) and middle blocker Nichole Lindow (Colorado 2013).
The team will compete in the Bundesliga, as well as the DVV Champions Cup and Champions League meets. The season begins in October and runs through March.
