WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field teams are set to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds this weekend. The three-day meet runs Thursday through Saturday and features 22 Boilermaker entries in Jacksonville, Florida.
The full release on Purdue's entries can be found here. Shantyra Delaney was added to the group on Sunday in the women's 100-meter hurdles as the No. 47 mark in the region after final scratches were made.
The Boilermakers open the first day of competition with a busy schedule. Purdue has entries in three of the five field events, as well as the first three races of the day. Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will get things started, as he is scheduled to compete in the first event of the regional, the men's hammer throw at noon ET. Enekwechi has the No. 1 mark in the East after winning the Big Ten Championship two weeks ago. He will have a chance to punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a top-12 finish. Jessica Harter and Jacqueline Williams will also have a shot to qualify for the NCAA Championships Thursday. Both compete in the women's pole vault, which is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Tyler Askew will vie for a spot in the long jump finals. The first round of jumps is scheduled for 7 p.m.
On the track, Symone Black will be the first Boilermaker to compete. The freshman Big Ten champion will run in the 400m hurdles at 4:30 p.m. Black is scheduled to run in lane 4 of the second heat. Her qualifying time is the best in the heat by 0.75 of a second. The top three from each heat, as well as the next six fastest times advance to Friday's quarterfinals, as is the case for all individual running events 1,500m and shorter.
