BRADENTON, Fla. - Led by freshman Marta Martin the Purdue women's golf team vaulted its way up the NCAA Championship leaderboard on Saturday, shooting a 14-over, 302, to sit tied for fifth place after two rounds at The Concession Golf Club. Martin fired a one-over par, 73, on the day as the Boilermakers moved up from 10th place entering the second round, while Martin is tied for 12th, individually.

The Boilermakers struggled on the front-nine for the second straight day, shooting 12-over as a team on the side, despite Martin's nine-hole mark of even-par. The mark was one stroke better than Friday's total on the front side, but still dropped the Old Gold and Black as low as 23rd in the team standings.

The back-nine would prove a completely different story for Purdue as they carved up the final nine holes, shooting just two-over par and finishing 14-over on the day and 33-over par for the tournament. Sophomore August Kim shot one-under par on the back nine, making birdie on both par-three holes, while senior Aurora Kan shot even-par.

Kim finished three-over, 75, for the day, rebounding from a tough first round, while Kan and freshman Linn Andersson logged the other two team scores for the day at match scores of five-over, 77. The Boilermakers were the first group into the clubhouse, sitting tied for 16th with the rest of the field to finish. As the day went and the scores climbed so did the Boilermakers, slowly working their way into the top-five.

Baylor is the only team ahead of the Boilermakers to finish the second round, sitting fourth at 28-over, while UC Davis is tied with Purdue at 33-over. USC, Duke and Tennessee account for the top-three scores so far, but all have to finish the second round, starting at 8:25 a.m. tomorrow.

Purdue starts the third round tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., teeing off on hole No. 1 with Baylor and UC Davis. The top 15 teams at the end of Sunday's play will advance to play in a fourth and final round of stroke play, along with the top-nine individuals, not on an advancing team.
