WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Chukwuebuka Enekwechi broke the school record and facility record in the hammer throw on Friday afternoon. The junior won the event with a new personal best of 69.76m (228-10) on the opening day of the Rankin/Poehlein Invitational.

After fouling his first attempt, Enekwechi settled in. He took the lead on his second throw, but it wasn't until his fifth attempt that his own school record came down. Enekwechi won by more than 30 feet and broke the facility record, which had stood since 2003. His mark ranks sixth in the country. Luke Lewis also PRed for the men Friday. He finished fourth with a throw of 49.20m (161-05).

On the women's side, Alisha Bahler finished second overall. She missed her PR by a centimeter, as she recorded a best mark of 55.83m (183-02). Kayla Zink had a huge PR and finished fourth in the event. She had the best series of her career and ended with a distance of 54.40m (178-06). That throw was nearly 10 feet better than her previous best. Micaela Hazelwood made finals and finished ninth with a distance of 49.84m (163-06), while Elizabeth Iversen PRed with a throw of 48.71m (159-10). Jessica DelBovo finished 17th.

The Boilermakers resume action on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET with the men's javelin. Running events are slated to begin at noon. A full schedule and heat sheets can be found at the top of the page.
