WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -Â The Boilermakers were again in full pads after doing so the first time last Thursday for spring practices. The running backs continued working through their rotation, as they look to replace their top two from a season ago.
Running backs coach Jafar Williams continued to stress to his young group the importance of pass protection and eliminating mental mistakes. He talked to the media after practice about starting to work towards building a preliminary depth chart for his guys, and that the leader will likely be the back who makes the least mistakes during the spring.
Pass protection and running routes has been a huge change for freshman Markell Jones. The mid-year enrollee talked after practice about the major changes from high school, where he was basically the only back and also never had to go downfield for a pass.
David Yancey also talked to the media. He discussed his spring focus and how he can build on his game experiences from last season. All three interviews can be found below.
Purdue announced on last week that the team will practice April 9th at Arsenal Tech High School's Howard Longshore Stadium, located at 1500 East Michigan Street in Indianapolis. The practice is scheduled to run from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. and free and open to the public.
The Boilermakers have eight more springs practices, all of which are free and open to the public. Other than the April 9 practice, the weekday practices will be held either indoors at Mollenkopf or, weather permitting, outside at the Bimel Complex and begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET. Each practice will be about two hours long. Saturday scrimmage times are still to be announced, but will be held in Ross-Ade Stadium. The remaining practice schedule is below.
