LAKE OCONEE, Ga. -- The Purdue men's golf team struggled on the first day of the Linger Longer Invitational, finishing the first 36 holes in 4-over par 580 (288-292) to sit in a 12th-place tie out of 15 teams. The field features 10 of the nation's top 52 teams, including three top-20 teams.

The Boilermakers were in 11th place after 18 holes with a even-par round of 288, before slipping one spot to 12th place with a 4-over par 292 on their second 18 holes. The host school, Kennesaw State, leads the tournament at 23-under par. Third-ranked Texas is second at 19-under par while 20th-ranked North Carolina is third at 17-under par.

Ben-Marvin Egel is Purdue's leader after 36 holes at even-par 144, good for 38th place. Egel opened with a 1-under par 71 before a final-round 73 dropped him to even par. The opening-round 71 is his fifth round under par this year.

Austin Eoff and Enzo Perez are tied for 46th at 1-over par 145. Eoff turned in rounds of 71 and 74, seeing his rounds counted in a row end at 32 straight rounds (one tied round) with his second-round 74. Perez recorded rounds of 72 and 73 for his 1-over par 145.

Freshman Brian Carlson is 61st after rounds of 74-73=147, while Stuart Macdonals is 67th at 4-over par 148 (75-73=148).

The third and final round will conclude tomorrow at Great Waters Golf Club on the shores of Lake Oconee.
