Purdue Returns Home to Host Twinbill Saturday

Feb. 27, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After facing five top-45 opponents in its last six dual matches, the Purdue men's tennis team is aiming to get back on the winning track by hosting a non-conference twinbill Saturday. The Boilermakers (2-6, 0-1 B1G) will square off against Morehead State at 10 a.m. ET and Dayton at 4 p.m. on the Basham Courts of the Schwartz Tennis Center.

In singles competition, Diego Acosta leads the way for the Old Gold & Black with a 4-2 record. The senior began the season at the No. 2 spot, but has shifted into the No. 1 role in the last two dual matches. Acosta's three wins with sophomore Ricky Medinilla are tops among the seven different tandems that have played together this spring.

Morehead State has been inactive since Feb. 14 when they were blanked by then-No. 27 Kentucky, 6-0. The loss brought the Eagles to 2-5. Weather forced their next two matches against Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee State to be postponed.

At 6-4, Dayton returns to West Lafayette for the first time since 2010 on the heels of a 5-2 win over Temple. The Flyers have won three of their five road matches this season, winning at IUPUI (4-3), Eastern Kentucky (4-3) and Northern Kentucky (4-3).

The Boilermakers rolled past Dayton in their only meeting, 7-0, on Jan. 24, 2010. Morehead State is making its first appearance on Purdue's schedule. The Eagles are the 167th opponent in program history.

Saturday is Middle School & High School Tennis Day. Following the Morehead State dual match, there will be presentations made to the teams in attendance on NCAA Recruiting and Initial Eligibility as well as a presentation from Purdue Club Tennis.
