Vidal Collects B1G Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honor

Feb. 11, 2015

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Purdue's Daniela Vidal has been named the B1G Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. It is the first weekly honor of the senior's career. She is the 12th Boilermaker to earn the honor and it is the 15th overall in program history.

Vidal helped lead the Boilermakers as they upset then-No. 25 Tulsa, 4-3, on the road in their last outing on Feb. 7. Although the Golden Hurricane claimed the doubles point, Vidal and partner Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum notched their sixth win of the spring season with a 6-3 decision of Ksenia Laskutova and Renata Kuricova. The duo is 2-1 while playing as the No. 1 tandem.

In singles action, Vidal, who was ranked 118th, disposed of Laskutova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. With the win she improved to 5-1 in spring competition and 15-5 overall in 2014-15. The Maracaibo, Venezuela, native is also 2-1 while playing in the No. 1 slot for Purdue.

The Old Gold & Black (2-1) jumped five spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's team rankings released Tuesday, from No. 38 to 33. Vidal made a significant jump in the singles ranks with a pair of wins over higher-ranked foes, climbing to No. 105. That mark stands as the highest ranking she has achieved in her four years at Purdue.

After being unranked in the preseason (9/8) and first regular season edition (1/6) of rankings, Vidal and Bernard-Feigenbaum made their debut on the doubles poll Tuesday, checking in at No. 24. It is the highest regular season ranking for a Purdue doubles team since Brooke Beier and Mallory Voelker were listed 20th on Jan. 9, 2007. Vidal and Bernard-Feigenbaum own a combined fall and spring record of 17-3.
