MINNEAPOLIS -- Guillermo Blanco's two individual event victories as well as an improbable first-place tie between Allie Davis and Kaersten Meitz in the 1000 freestyle highlighted the opening night of competition for the Purdue swimming and diving teams at the Big Ten Triple Duals.

In the team scoring, both Purdue teams lead Northwestern and trail Minnesota. The 23rd-ranked Minnesota men's 11-point lead (98.5-87.5) on Purdue is the tightest team score entering Saturday's conclusion of the meet.

Blanco won the 200 freestyle and the 200 IM, posting a Purdue season-best time in the 200 free (1:38.37). Lyam Dias was victorious in the 100 breaststroke, touching first in an event in which the top five all finished within a second of each other. Marat Amaltdinov took third.

Rhiannon Sheets joined Davis and Meitz as an individual event winner for the women. The senior touched first in the 200 butterfly.

Steele Johnson was victorious in platform diving, his team-leading 11th individual victory of the season. Sean Mokhtri took second and Alec Back fourth to give the Boilers three of the top four finishers.

Davis and Meitz went head-to-head throughout all 40 lengths of the 1000, each touching in a time of 9:51.32. It was a career-best time for Davis and good for third-fastest in program history. Meitz moved into second place on the list with her top time last week.

Caroline Weigand finished as the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke with a personal-best time of 1:02.36, moving into sixth place in the Purdue record book. She also teamed up with Hannah Manger, Kylie Vogel and Anji Li on the Boilers' second-place 200 medley relay team. Their time of 1:42.16 was good for second fastest on the team this season.

Led by a personal season-best time in the 200 free from Josh Brooks (1:40.55) on the opening leg, Purdue's 800 free relay team of Jan Karel Petric, Josh Ehrman, Blanco and Brooks finished second with a time of 6:41.05 that stands as third fastest for the Boilers this year.

Anji Li (50 free and 100 back) and Meagan Lim (200 fly and 200 IM) each posted a pair of top five finishes. Li took third in the 50 free as Purdue's top finisher. Other third-place finishes came from Austin Flager (50 free), Abby Jagdfeld (200 free), Hannah Manger (100 back) and Stephen Seliskar (100 back) as well as Amaltdinov in the 100 breast.

Action concludes at 1 p.m. ET Saturday.
