WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - For the fourth straight season, the Purdue women's tennis team will take part in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, traveling to Clemson, S.C., to play in their first dual matches of the season at seventh annual event hosted by No. 14 Clemson at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center Saturday and Sunday. The Boilermakers are seeded second at the site and will take on third-seeded Washington Saturday at 9 a.m. ET. The ITA Kick-Off Weekend features 60 women's teams competing across the country for berths to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, to be hosted in February by the University of Virginia at Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
Following Purdue and Washington (2-1), top-seeded Clemson (0-0) will suit up to play the No. 4-seed Winthrop (0-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday's losing teams will compete in the consolation match Sunday at 9 a.m., with the winners battling for a berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Three of the four teams, all of them being highly ranked, feature ranked singles players and doubles teams. For the Old Gold & Black it's No. 105 Andjela Djokovic (1-2) and No. 118 Daniela Vidal (3-0). Elianne Douglas-Miron is the lone ranked Huskie, checking in at No. 90. Clemson brings in No. 27 Joana Eidukonyte and No. 85 Romy Köelzer, along with the nation's second-ranked tandem in Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies.
The Boilermakers enter the event after hosting their own Purdue Invite to open the season Jan. 16-18. They combined for a 13-9 mark in singles and went 11-4 in doubles while taking on then-No. 65 Denver, No. T-46 DePaul and Drake on the Basham Courts of the Schwartz Tennis Center.
