WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 42nd-ranked Purdue's women tennis team concluded the final day of the Purdue Invite on the Bashman Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center taking two of three doubles matches and split even, 3-3, in singles.
Coming out with slow start in their doubles match against Denver's Sonja Radosevic and Gracia Mboko, Daniela Vidal and Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum pulled off a come from behind 6-4 victory. The pair went 4-1 together while playing side-by-side the past three days.
The junior tandem of Krisztina Kapitany and Deborah Suarez defeated Denver's Maureen Slattery and Julia O'Loughlin, 6-4, which gave the pair an overall record of 5-1 while playing in the Purdue Invite.
In singles, Bernard-Feigenbaum (3-0) served up a pair of bagels to Drake's Summer Brills, 6-0, 6-0. No. 118 Vidal, who also went 3-0 this weekend, outscored her Bulldogs opponent Mariel Ante, 7-5, 6-1.
Senior Lynda Xepoleas also contributed a win for the Boilermakers, posting a 6-1, 6-3 match over Nell Boyd of Drake to close out the weekend at 2-1.
The Purdue Invite used the new ITA Shorted Format for scoring. It was voted upon by the ITA Division I operating committee in December 2014. The new format features no-ad scoring in singles and doubles, and doubles are played to six with a tiebreak at 6-all.
The Boilermakers will be back in action as one of 60 teams selected to play in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Purdue will travel to Clemson, S.C., and play Jan. 24-25. It will be the fourth straight season the Old Gold & Black has been selected to the event and the third time in four years that the Boilermakers will be hosted by Clemson. The site, one of 15 four-team sites across the country, also features Washington and Winthrop. The Boilermakers are seeded second at the site and will take on third-seeded Washington. Top-seeded Clemson will take on fourth-seeded Winthrop, with the winners of the two matches facing off for a berth to the 2015 ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
