Jan. 16, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Two points will be on the line for the Governor's Cup all-sports competition this weekend, as the Boilermaker track and field teams head to Bloomington for the IU/Purdue Dual. Purdue won the dual on both sides during indoor season last year, as the men topped the Hoosiers 70-65 and the women were victorious 72-64.

Saturday's meet at Gladstein Fieldhouse is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET, while the final event is scheduled to begin at 6:55. Live scoring will be available at .

The Boilermakers will travel 32 women and 29 men to the meet. Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and Raheem Mostert are scheduled to lead the No. 14 men's team in Bloomington. Enekwechi currently has the world's farthest weight throw mark for 2015, while Mostert is yet to open in the 60m or 200m dashes in which he is scheduled to compete. Enekwechi will also compete in the shot put.

The men's team has a handful of other individuals who will open their seasons, or make their Purdue debuts on Saturday. Multi-sport student-athletes Shane Mikesky, Gregory Phillips and Gelen Robinson are scheduled to open their seasons at the dual. Mikesky, a senior who is a wide receiver on the football team, will run in the 60m hurdles, while freshman Phillips, also a wide receiver, is scheduled to run the 400m dash and a leg of the 4x400m relay. Robinson, a linebacker/rush end on the football team and heavyweight on the wrestling team, will throw the shot put and weight. Mostert is also a multisport athlete, as he finished his eligibility on the football team in the fall as a running back, as is thrower Jordan Roos who is also scheduled to compete.

Another competitor of note on the men's side is Tate Schienbein, who is scheduled to run in the mile and the 4x800m relay. Schienbein currently has the nation's No. 8 time in the mile from last week's Gene Edmonds Invite.

On the women's side, the Boilermakers got off to a fast start last week at the Gene Edmonds Cup with several of the nation's top times. Devynne Charlton had a huge day, with wins in the 60m, 200m and 60m hurdles. She is scheduled to compete in the 60m dash and hurdles, as well as the 4x400m relay. Charlton currently has the 13th-fastest 60m dash time in the country, while her hurdles time ranks sixth in the country. She is also second in school history in the 60m dash and third in the hurdles.

Savannah Carson will also be among the top sprinters for the Purdue women. She is scheduled to compete in the 60m dash, where she is currently 29th in the country, and the long jump, which will be her first time competing in this season. Carmiesha Cox will also be among the sprinters competing who had a strong showing at the Edmonds Invite. Cox has the nation's seventh-best 200m dash time and 32nd-fastest 60m dash mark. She is scheduled to compete in both, as well as the 4x400m relay. Cierra Brown, the school's triple jump record holder, will compete for the first time in her main event, and is also entered in the 60m hurdles and the long jump.

A handful of women are scheduled to open in their primary events on Saturday. Junior school record holder Aarin Jones will run the 400m dash for the first time this season, while 800m school record holder Vanessa McLeod will run the half mile for the first time indoors since 2013.
