Jan. 12, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Junior Chukwuebuka Enekwechi earned his second men's Field Athlete of the Week accolade by the Big Ten on Monday. Enekwechi breake his previous Lambert Fieldhouse facility record in the weight throw at Saturday's Gene Edmonds Invitational with the current world-leading mark.

Enekwechi posted a 23.32m (76-06.25) mark in the weight throw at the Edmonds Invite, earning him first place by nearly 12 feet and the nation's top weight throw mark by two and a half feet. The Laurelton, N.Y., native also won the shot put with a 18.22m (59-09.5 ) mark, which keeps him ranked second in the Big Ten and 10th in the NCAA. Enekwechi's season-best shot put mark is 18.28m (59-11.75), set at the Dec. 12 IU Earlybird Invitational.

Following his performance at the IU Earlybird Invitational, Enekwechi was named the men's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time this season. While in Bloomington, Ind., he won the weight throw with a 23.01m (75-06) throw and took fourth in the shot put. Through Dec. 12, his weight throw distance was the best in the country. He is the only Boilermaker to ever record a throw of 23m or better.

This is Enekwechi's sixth Field Athlete of the Week award of his career. He is the first Purdue male field athlete to be awarded the honor six times.

The Boilermakers will be back in Bloomington on Saturday for the Purdue and Indiana Dual.
