Purdue Finishes Off Dual Wins vs. Michigan State

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue swimming and diving teams were victorious early and often on the third and final day of their dual with Michigan State to close out a pair of wins against the Spartans Saturday afternoon at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

The No. 19 Purdue women won all 14 events Saturday en route to finishing off a sweep of the 24 events contested over the three-day meet, emerging victorious 248-193. The Purdue men won nine of the 14 events Saturday and 19 of the 24 overall. Their final margin of victory was 242-203. Both teams exhibitioned a number of their top finishers Saturday after entering the day with sizable leads.

Meagan Lim (100 back and 200 IM) and Danny Conway (200 fly and 500 free) each won a pair of individual events Saturday to lead the way. Lim also posted the top women's time of the day in the 100 fly while winning the exhibition heat of the event. Conway won the 500 free in lane one, a race in which the Boilers had the top four finishers.

Post-Meet Interviews with Conway, Flager, Lim & Weigand

The Purdue women had at least the three top finishers in eight individual events Saturday. Allie Davis (4:48.17) and Kaersten Meitz (9:58.85) dominated 500 and 1000 distance freestyle events, respectively, while posting strong times for early January.

The Purdue men had hat least the top two finishers in five individual events Saturday. Austin Flager won the 50 free with a team season-best time of 20.92. He was also part of the Boilers' top foursomes in both relay events Saturday and four of the five relays for the weekend. Guillermo Blanco won the 200 back and was also part of both of the top relays Saturday.

Abby Jagdfeld (won 50 free), Grace Hernandez (100 free), Stephen Seliskar (100 back) and Meitz (1000 free) all touched first in an event, finished second in another and were part of a relay winner. Caroline Weigand posted a personal season-best time of 1:03.36 while recording her first collegiate victory in winning the 100 breaststroke.

Lyam Dias (100 breast), Trish Regan (200 back) and Rhiannon Sheets (200 fly) won an individual event and contributed to a relay winner. Josh Brooks, Josh Ehrman, Hannah Manger and Annie Spalding each finished as the runner-up in two events.

Other individual event winners included Marat Amaltdinov (200 breast), Nate Hopkins (1000 free) and Francesca Marr (200 breast).

The Boilermakers are back in action Saturday, Jan. 24 when they host rival Indiana for a co-ed dual meet that will double as the annual senior salute meet. Action begins at 11 a.m.
