Track and Field Season Starts Friday

Dec. 11, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field teams kickoff their indoor season on Friday with a trip to Bloomington, Ind., for the IU Earlybird Invitational. The 22-team meet is scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m. with the women's weight throw.

A full schedule of events can be found at the bottom of the page. Live results will be available on PurdueSports.com by clicking on the event on the track and field schedule page. Updates will also be posted to Twitter @PurdueTrackXC.

Men's Outlook
On the men's side, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi looks to make some noise to start the season in the weight throw and shot put. The junior already holds the school record in the weight throw with a mark of 23.62m (77-06.00). His next target for the season would be to chase the NCAA Division I record, which is 24.27m (79-7.50). Enekwechi will target the school record in the shot put, a mark of 19.94m (65-05.00) by Nedzad Mulabegovic. Enekwechi's career best is just two feet, three and a half inches shy of that mark.

Seven newcomers will make the trip for the men. Matthew Garrison, Luke Lewis, Connor Priddy, Kinard Rolle, Jonathon Roy, Tim Deal and Justin Veteto will officially begin their Purdue careers on Friday. Nicholas Parks returns to action after missing the 2013-14 indoor and outdoor seasons with an injury. He is scheduled to run in the 500m and the 4x400m relay. The men will travel 18 student-athletes total.

Women's Outlook
On the women's side, Purdue will travel 29 individuals, including nine newcomers. Symone Black, Abigail Clark, Micaela Hazlewood, Autumn Heath, Elizabeth Iversen, Victoria McCuiston, Savannah Roberson, Brionna Thomas and Jacqueline Williams will look to make some noise in their debuts.

Among the returning competitors is triple jump school record holder Cierra Brown. Though she won't compete in that event, she is scheduled for the long jump and 60m hurdles. Devynne Charlton will try to move up the Purdue lists in the 60m hurdles and 60m dash. The sophomore already holds the program's third-fastest times in both events. Aarin Jones will also be among the group of top returners. She is scheduled to run in the 500m and the 4x400m relay.
