BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Akeem Hunt ran for a career-high 171 yards, but Purdue fell to Indiana in the Old Oaken Bucket Game, 23-16.

Purdue (3-9, 1-7) led 13-3 early in the third quarter but managed only one field goal the rest of the way. 82 of Hunt's rushing yards came on the touchdown run that made it a 10-point game.

"I don't know what he rushed for, but he's done a really nice job for us this year," said coach Darrell Hazell. "He's a complete 180 from where he was last year, in my opinion."

Indiana quarterback Zander Diamont scored on a 1-yard TD run with 27 seconds left, giving Indiana a 23-16 lead.

The Hoosiers (4-8, 1-7 Big Ten) snapped a six-game losing streak and held onto the Old Oaken Bucket for the second straight year -- the first time they've done that since 1993 and 1994.

Austin Appleby's first pass of the second half was picked off by Indiana's Tegray Scales and the Hoosiers took advantage with a 23-yard field goal from Griffin Oakes.

The Boilermakers answered on their next offensive play. Hunt broke free up the middle, cut right and with blockers in front, sprinted down the right sideline for the long touchdown run to make it 13-3 with 9:25 left in the third quarter.

Indiana came back with a 41-yard field goal that banked in off the left upright to make it 13-6, and a 41-yard TD run from Shane Wynn on a reverse to tie the score with 2:28 left in the third quarter.

Purdue regained the lead, 16-13, when Coleman's fumble set up Paul Griggs for a 20-yard field goal early in the fourth.

But the Hoosiers tied it on Oakes' 34-yard field goal with 6:31 to play and won it on Diamont's run around the right side.

Purdue had one chance at a Hail Mary, but it fell short and out of bounds.

Appleby was 19 of 35 for 123 yards with three interceptions.

Diamont finished 15 of 24 for 119 yards..
