COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Seven event victories, including two apiece by Abby Jagdfeld and Emily Fogle, highlighted No. 25 Purdue women's swimming and diving's team victory at the Ohio State Invitational over the weekend (Nov. 21-23).
Twenty-six Boilermakers scored team points by finishing among the top 16 in the individual events. Jagdfeld led the way with 64 points thanks in part to her victories in the A finals of the 100 and 200 freestyle. She was one of nine Boilers that scored in four different individual events.
Emily Fogle swept the A finals of the breaststroke events. The redshirt-senior holds Purdue all-time records in three events and is beginning to return to her All-American form after missing most of the last two seasons due to injuries.
Kylie Vogel, Hannah Manger, Fogle and Jagdfeld were all a member of two victorious relay teams. The Boilermakers won three relays and finished second in the other two.
Jagdfeld established new Purdue freshman records in the 100 and 200 free en route to winning those events. In both cases, she eclipsed marks set by teammate Rhiannon Sheets at the 2011 Ohio State Invitational.
Now a senior, Sheets was also a big reason the Boilermakers won a multi-day invitational meet on the road for the first time since November 2004 at North Carolina. She ranked fourth on the team with 54 points and was among the nine Boilers that scored in four different individual events. She finished as the runner-up in the 200 free and 200 fly, helping Purdue post 10 second-place showings in A finals.
With a runner-up finish in the A final of the 200 IM and a pair of third-place showings, Nika Karlina Petric was second with 61 points in individual events. Francesca Marr (56 points), Sheets (54) and Meagan Lim (49.5) rounded out the top five and also qualified for four A finals.
Along with the relays, Purdue was most productive in the 200 free, 500 free and 100 fly. The Boilermakers racked up a meet-high 96 points in the 200 free after having eight of the top 13 finishers, highlighted by a 1-2-3 finish by Jagdfeld, Sheets and Allie Davis in the A final that featured six Purdue competitors total. Five Boilers were in the A finals of the 500 free and 100 fly. Purdue posted a 2-3-4 finish in the 500 free and had seven swimmers score in the 100 fly.
Hannah Manger, Trish Regan, Davis, Lim, Marr and Petric moved up on the Purdue all-time Top 10 lists in at least one event. Freshmen Kaersten Meitz, Emmy Rawson and Jagdfeld added their names among the fastest in program history as well.
Seventeen Boilermakers scored at the 2013 Ohio State Invitational, leading Purdue to a fourth-place team finish.
