WILMETTE, Ill. - The Purdue women's golf team wrapped up a ninth-place finish at Northwestern's Windy City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday, finishing 35-over par (294-302-303=899) at the Westmoreland Country Club. The Boilermakers' shot 15-over par, 303 in the final round, dropping one spot in the team standings, while sophomore August Kim shot a team-best two-over par, 74 to tie for 13th place individually.
After matching the top team score in the opening 18 holes, the Boilermakers were never able to replicate the level of play in the second and third rounds and fell in the highly-touted event field. Purdue finished third of five Big Ten teams in play, besting Minnesota and Wisconsin after falling to the Badgers their last time out at the East and West Match Play Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Boilermakers bested three top-50 teams on the week, turning away the Gophers and Badgers as well as No. 45 Miami.
Kim set career-best marks for 18 and 54 holes, shooting an opening-round 72 on her way to a five-over, 221 for the tournament. She finished strong on Tuesday, shooting one-under for the final nine holes with a birdie and eight pars. Senior Aurora Kan matched her second-round 75, with another three-over par performance on Tuesday, while classmate Johanna Tillström and freshman Marta Martin each carded five-over, 77's to complete the Boilermakers' final-round score.
Seventh-ranked USC took the team crown, shooting 12-over par, 876 for the tournament, and edging the fifth-ranked host Wildcats by just three strokes. Iowa State and Ohio State made the largest leaps up the leaderboard on the final day as the Cyclones jumped from seventh to third in the standings, while the Buckeyes fired a team score of three-under par, 285 to move from 12th to sixth. USC's Annie Park claimed medalist honors, finishing five-under par, 211, while Ohio State's Lina Aguillon was second at two-under par, 214, playing individually.
The Boilermakers close the fall season Oct. 24-26, in Wilmington, N.C. at the Landfall Tradition.
