Kerr Finishes as Top Scorer at Illinois Open

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -
The Boilermakers competed at the Illinois Open on Friday evening and Caleb Kerr was the men's top scoring individual in the 8,000-meter race. The Purdue men took third, while the women finished sixth in the final tuneup before the Big Ten Championships next weekend.

On the men's side, Kerr ran a time of 25:32.87 which was good for third overall, but first among scorers. Former Boilermaker Jake Waterman won the race with a time of 25:02.81. Rocky Pollock was Purdue's second finisher, as he took 11th overall with a time of 25:59.28. His finish was good for fifth-place scoring points. Tate Schienbein was third for Purdue with a 14th place finish. He crossed the finish line in 26:02.02, which was the eighth-fastest time among scoring individuals.

Ben Mohrdieck was Purdue's fourth finisher with a time of 26:33.36. He finished 23rd overall and was 14th among scorers. Sam Hoffman rounded out the scoring for the Boilermakers with a time of 26:52.20. He finished 30th, and 17th among scorers.

The men's team finished with 45 points, one point behind .

On the women's side, Alyssa Christoffer paced the Boilermakers. She took eighth overall with a time of 18:39.49. Maria Paolillo was the second Boilermaker to finish. She crossed the line in 20th with a time of 19:04.14. Reagan Lear was Purdue's third finisher with a time of 19:25.09. Her time was good for 35th, and 29th-best among scoring individuals.

Grace Denton was Purdue's fourth finisher on the day. She ran a 5k time of 19:51.46 for 53rd place. Renee Studt rounded out the scoring with a 57th-place finish and a time of 20:03.91.

The Purdue women were seventh with 131 points.

The Boilermakers now enter the championship portion of the season. Purdue will bring back its top runners for the Big Ten Championships in Iowa City, Iowa, next Sunday.
