TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Daniela Vidal and Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum's run at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships came to a close Monday at the Goodfriend Tennis Center. Vidal and Bernard-Feigenbaum suffered a main draw doubles semifinal setback and Vidal bowed out in the quarterfinals of the singles main draw.
After having doubles matches playing an eight-game pro set the first three rounds, play shifted to a best of three set match with a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set in the semifinals. The fourth-seeded Boilermaker tandem took the opening set from the top-seeded team of Nadia Ravita and Aldila Sutjiadi of Kentucky, 6-4, for the early advantage.
The Wildcats, who are also ranked 12th nationally, evened the scales with a 6-1 second set to force the breaker. Ravita and Sutjiadi rode their second set momentum and closed out the match by winning the breaker, 10-6, to deal Vidal and Bernard-Feigenbaum their first loss of the fall season. Their record now stands at 11-1 playing side-by-side.
Vidal been dominant in her three matches leading into a main draw singles quarterfinals match versus Vanderbilt's Courtney Colton, but it was the second-seeded and 63rd-ranked Commodore that controlled the match. Colton registered a 6-3, 6-0 decision to deny Vidal from the semifinals. The Purdue senior moved to 10-4 in her final fall campaign.
The Boilermakers will be back in action as they wrap up their fall schedule by hosting the Schwartz Challenge at the Schwartz Tennis Center Oct. 31 - Nov. 2.
