Women's Tennis Returns to Volunteer State

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Just days after wrapping up play at the June Stewart Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., four members of the Purdue women's tennis team will return to the Volunteer State to compete in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships in Knoxville. Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum, Natalia Davila, Daniela Vidal and Lynda Xepoleas will play in the main singles and doubles draws starting Saturday at 9 a.m. ET.

The tournament, hosted by the University of Tennessee, begins play on Friday with qualifying singles and doubles. Eight individuals from qualifying singles and four doubles teams advance to the main draws.

The first of two rounds of doubles, followed by one round of singles are scheduled for Saturday. Armed with an 8-0 fall record, Bernard-Feigenbaum and Vidal received the No. 4 seed in the 32-team main doubles draw. They will square off against Vanderbilt's Marie Casares and Ellie Yates at the Knoxville Racquet Club. Davila and Xepoleas will team together for the first time this fall as they take on Ana Gerbasi and Jayde Viccars of Eastern Tennessee State.

A pair of Boilermakers are scheduled to start singles play at 1 p.m., as Bernard-Feigenbaum will put her 6-0 fall record on the line against Victoria Olivarez of Tennessee and Xepoleas (2-3) is set to go up against fourth-seeded and 98th-ranked Aldila Sutjiadi of Kentucky. Davila (4-1) and Vidal (7-3) will then hit the court to take on seventh-seeded Anki Wind of Memphis and Brittany Huxley of Middle Tennessee State, respectively, at 2:15 p.m.

In addition to Purdue and host Tennessee, teams represented at USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships include: Austin Peay, Ball State, Belmont, Chattanooga, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Tennessee State, Indiana, IUPUI, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Louisville, Memphis, Miami (Ohio), Middle Tennessee State, Morehead State, Murray State, Northern Kentucky, UT Martin, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky and Xavier.

Singles and doubles champions from each of the 12 USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships will advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Nov. 6-9 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
