WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue swimming and diving teams begin their new seasons with a busy home weekend of action at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center that features co-ed meets on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
The Purdue women as well as the men's divers take on Miami (Ohio) Friday at 6 p.m. The men's swimmers will also be racing Friday night as part of a team intrasquad. Saturday at noon, the Boilermakers welcome student-athletes from colleges around the state to campus for the annual Indiana Intercollegiates. Admission is free to all home meets at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
It will be a full deck Saturday as 11 schools and 19 teams from the state of Indiana will be represented. Eight colleges are expected to be represented by men's and women's competitors. The Ball State women will be in attendance as well as selected men's swimmers from Indiana.
The men's diving scores from Friday evening will carry over to the Oct. 30 Purdue-Miami dual in Oxford, Ohio. The men's swimmers will be split up into two teams for the intrasquad Friday.
The Purdue women are excited to welcome Emily Fogle back to the active roster this season. The program record holder in the 100 and 200 breaststroke as well as the 200 IM has not competed for the Boilers since November 2012 at the Purdue Invitational due to injuries. She was a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier as an underclassman and would have an earned another bid in 2013 if not for the hip injury that sidelined her.
The Purdue women have competed against Miami in dual meet action in each of the last seven seasons dating back to 2007-08. The Miami dual has been an annual home-and-home part of the schedule along with other regular head-to-head opponents like Notre Dame, Northwestern, Michigan State and Indiana. However, this season the meet against Northwestern moves to the Big Ten Triple Duals, with the Wildcats replacing Wisconsin at the annual meet that also features Minnesota.
The standard 16-event dual meet format will be utilized Friday evening and the men are expected to race the same events.
