WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A trio of Purdue men's tennis players are slated to compete in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships starting Thursday at 9:30 a.m. CT in Nashville, Tenn. Diego Acosta, Ricky Medinilla and Mateus Silva are in the main singles draw. The 41st-ranked duo of Acosta and Medinilla are seeded third in the doubles main draw. The tournament runs through Sunday and is hosted by Vanderbilt.
Thursday's action opens with the doubles first round, followed by the first and second rounds of singles. Of Purdue's three players, Acosta is the only one that has a first round singles match, going up against Belmont's Cedric Dujacquie. Medinilla, who is tabbed as the No. 12 seed, and 27th-seeded Silva received a bye in the first round and await their second-round opponent.
Acosta and Medinilla will be in doubles action starting Friday after receiving a first-round bye.
Singles matches will play the best of three sets with no-ad scoring and a tiebreak at six all. Doubles will play an eight-game pro set with no-ad scoring and a tiebreak at seven all.
In addition to Purdue and host Vanderbilt, teams represented at USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships include: Austin Peay, Ball State, Belmont, Butler, Chattanooga, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Tennessee State, Indiana, IUPUI, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Louisville, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Morehead State, Murray State, Northern Kentucky, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech and Xavier.
Singles and doubles champions from each of the 12 USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships will advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Nov. 6-9 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
