WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue men's tennis players Lucas Dages and Matt Bouggy competed at the Rocket Invitational Saturday and Sunday in Toledo, Ohio. The Boilermaker pair played four singles matches and two doubles matches.
Playing in his first tournament of the fall season, Dages took the opening set from Toledo's Roberto Meza, 6-4. The Rocket responded in the second set by the same score to even the match and force a 10-point breaker, to which the Purdue sophomore prevailed, 12-10. Dages was unable to come out on the winning end of his other singles match, falling in the breaker to Saint Francis' Plamen Avuski, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 1-0 (7).
Bouggy dropped both of his singles matches, falling to Ryan Jorgensen of Toledo (6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (8)) and Juan Pardo of Saint Francis (6-3, 6-2).
In doubles, the Boilermaker duo rallied to defeat Niagara's Mark Mackowski and Joseph Smithyman, 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (8). Dages and Bouggy then suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Colton Buffington and Mirko Radosevic of Cleveland State in their final match of the event.
Up next for the Purdue men's tennis team is the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships starting Thursday in Nashville, Tenn. Vanderbilt will serve as the host for the event that runs through Oct. 19.
