USA Swimming National Junior Team | Purdue's 2014-15 Recruiting Class
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Freshman Abby Jagdfeld of Purdue women's swimming and diving has earned a spot on the USA Swimming National Junior Team with her top times of the year in the 100 and 200 freestyle.
Jagdfeld enrolled at Purdue last month as a member of the Boilermakers' 2014-15 recruiting class, which featured 10 swimmers and two divers. She was a two-time Wisconsin state champion in the 100 free and also won the 200 free as a junior. Classmate Kaersten Meitz and Jagdfeld helped lead the Waukesha South-Mukwonago co-op high school team to three consecutive Wisconsin state titles.
Jagdfeld's long course qualifying times in the 100 (55.81) and 200 free (2:00.31) ranked among the top five in the nation for the junior age group. While representing her Waukesha Express club team, She posted her 100 free time at the Swim Pink A+ Invitational, which was held at the University of Iowa Recreation Center, June 20-22. Her 200 free time was recorded at the NCSA Summer Swimming Championships, which the Indiana University Natatorium at IUPUI hosted this year (Aug. 5-9).
Swimmers had to be 18 and under as of Sept. 1, 2014, to be eligible. They were selected for the USA Swimming National Junior Team based on their times in Olympic events from the combined results of all USA Swimming and FINA sanctioned meets, as well as 2014 YMCA Long Course Nationals, from Jan. 1, 2014, to Sept. 1, 2014. The top six athletes in each event made the National Junior Team, however, relay lead-offs, time trials, swim-offs and intermediate splits were not considered.
The Boilermakers open their 2014-15 season the weekend of Oct. 17-18 with a pair of home meets.
