WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermaker softball team will be making a difference in the lives of children and also those battling leukemia and lymphoma this week with a pair of community service efforts and even during their games on Sunday in Westfield.

On Tuesday, head coach Kim Schuette and baseball coach Doug Schreiber will be signing autographs and meeting fans at Arni's on Market Square beginning at 6 p.m. Arni's will be donating 20 percent of food purchases to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society from 5-9 p.m. The Boilermaker Special will be on site from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and available for pictures. You must bring the flyer above in order for LLS to receive the percentage of your food purchase.

LLS is a cause near to the heart of Purdue softball as the team has raised more than $10,000 over the last four years to support LLS through the annual Light the Night Walk. The Boilermakers will again be participating in the walk on Sept. 18 at Riehle Plaza in Lafayette. Donations to the Boilermakers' team homepage for the walk can be made here. The team is aiming to raise $2000 for LLS through their participation in this year's walk. LLS is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to blood cancer. It's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

The 2014 Boilermakers along with the Notre Dame softball team will visiting children at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis on Saturday and will participate in a celebration picnic for past patients and families. Notre Dame head coach Deanna Gumpf will be on the field with one of the Riley patients for the coin flip at the Purdue/Notre Dame football game Saturday evening.

Purdue will kick off its fall campaign on Sunday, Sept. 14, at the College Game Day tournament at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. The Boilers will play Notre Dame at 11 a.m. and Evansville at 1 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and free for children under 12. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Riley Hospital.
