WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A number of Purdue baseball players scheduled to return for the 2015 season continue to play ball throughout the summer by joining NCAA-sanctioned wood bat leagues from the Upper Midwest to the East Coast.

A number of summer leagues begin their seasons this week or weekend. As college teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament are eliminated over the next couple weeks, those players also make their way to their summer teams.

Jordan Minch is scheduled to head to the prestigious Cape Cod League again, but his status is dependent on next week's MLB First-Year Player Draft (June 5-7). With a July 1993 birthday, Minch is a draft-eligible sophomore this summer. Minch has proved to be a durable left-handed pitcher, both traits increasing his value. As of now, Minch is scheduled to pitch for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks this summer. He pitched for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape League last year.

Cody Strong and Ted Snidanko (Covington Lumberjacks), Tim McElroy and Patrick Kenney (Wisconsin Woodchucks), Gavin Downs and Brian Ghiselli (Lake Erie Monarchs), and Adam Dressler and Matt Frawley (DuPage County Hounds) are all scheduled to be teammates this summer.

Strong and Snidanko are headed to the Valley Baseball League of the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. Kyle Johnson (Peninsula Pilots) and Brandon Krieg (Asheboro Copperheads) will also be playing on the East Coast in the Coastal Plain League of Virginia and the Carolinas. Krieg was the starting shortstop in Asheboro's season-opening win May 27.

Kyle Wood (Lakeshore Chinooks) will join McElroy and Kenney in the Northwoods League of the Upper Midwest, all playing for teams based in Wisconsin.

Matt Gibbs (Licking County Settlers) and Brett Carlson (Lima Locos) will join Downs and Ghiselli in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, which is predominantly comprised of teams in Ohio. Downs and Ghiselli's Lake Erie Monarchs team relocated to Flat Rock, Mich., during the offseason. Carlson and Ghiselli redshirted for Purdue in 2014 as transfers from Austin Peay and Miami (Ohio), respectively.

Chicagoland natives Jeff Evak (Joliet Admirals), Dressler and Frawley will be playing close to home in the Midwest Collegiate League. Evak's Joliet Admirals are a newly relocated team that will be playing their home games at Joliet Junior College. The DuPage County Hounds play their home games at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.
