WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After winning Big Ten weekly honors six times during the indoor season, Purdue senior Dani Bunch earned her first outdoor Big Ten Women's Field Athlete of the Week award as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Bunch captured the women's shot put title last weekend at the Kentucky Relays, while placing in the discus and hammer throw as well.
In a dominant showing in the women's shot put, Bunch bested the field by more than a foot with a winning mark of 16.34 meters (53-07.50) in Lexington. She also finished seventh in the hammer throw at 55.06 meters (180-08), and 14th in the discus at 42.24 meters (138-07). While Bunch has earned indoor weekly honors seven times in her career, this marks the first weekly outdoor award for the Purdue senior. She is the second Boilermaker to secure weekly honors this outdoor season, following classmate Nikki Nunn on March 19.
Purdue continues the outdoor campaign this week at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Bunch is likely to compete in the shot put at noon (CT) on Friday.
