WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Purdue women's golf team finished the first day of competition at the Landfall Tradition tied for 13th place with a round of 316 (+28). Junior Aurora Kan had the top score of the day, shooting a four-over, 76 at the par-72 Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall on Friday.
Kan got off to a rough start, opening the day with a double-bogie on the 10th hole, but recovered nicely with birdies on 11 and 16 to finish the first nine just one-over. She came home with a three-over back-nine, making birdie on No. 6, and finishing tied for 25th on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Brooke Beegle and freshman August Kim were the next two scores in for the Old Gold and Black as Beegle finished seven-over at 79 and Kim was eight-over at 80. Junior Johanna Tillström rounded out the team score with a nine-over, 80, while sophomore Vinh-Hoa Ngo shot a 10-over, 82.
"We need to refocus and bounce back tomorrow," said Boilermaker assistant coach Caroline Hegg. "There's still a lot of golf to be played and it's about how we respond. I know that our team will be ready to play in the morning."
Alabama leads the team race with a three-under score of 285, paced by individual leader Stephanie Meadow at two-under, 70. Play resumes tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
