Escribens Wins Consolation Final at Miami Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Purdue women's tennis team won five of its six place matches, including a Green Singles consolation finals win by Claudia Escribens, in the final day of the Miami Invite Sunday. Escribens defeated Allie Robbins of Ole Miss in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, for her fifth win of the fall campaign.

It was an all-Boilermaker battle in the consolation third-place match of the Green Singles draw as Natalia Davila faced Krisztina Kapitany. The freshman defeated the sophomore, 6-4, 6-1. Andjela Djokovic's 7-5, 6-3, win over Barry's Maria Reis earned her 15th-place.

Daniela Vidal and Nicole Robinson each won their match against a Barry opponent to take home a seventh- and 13th-place finish, respectively, in the Orange Singles draw. Vidal swept Karina Goia, 7-5, 6-3, while Robinson rallied to defeat Elisabeth Abanda in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.

No. 125 Mara Schmidt finished fourth in the Orange Singles draw, falling 6-3, 6-3, to Miami's Monique Albuquerque.

The Boilermakers will play in their fourth tournament of the fall season at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships Oct. 18-22 in Memphis, Tenn.
