Men's Golf Tied For Sixth Following Opening 18 Holes At Puerto Rico Classic

RIO MAR, Puerto Rico - The Purdue men's golf team shot a collective one-over 289 on Sunday in the opening round of the Puerto Rico Classic to finish the tournament's first day in a tie for sixth place.

The Boilermakers are deadlocked with Georgia in sixth place after Sunday's action. Alabama leads the field after carding a team total of 276 (-12) in the first round.

Sophomore Adam Schenk recorded a four-under 68 on Sunday to finish the day in second place, just one stroke behind Alabama's Justin Thomas. The performance was Schenk's second-best single round of the season behind the first-round 65 he posted at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in September.

Seniors Tyler Duncan and William Sjaichudin each recorded a one-over 73 on Sunday to wrap up the day in a tie for 30th place, while freshman Justin Cho shot 75 (+3) to enter into a tie 42nd. Redshirt freshman Enzo Perez will head into play on Monday in a tie for 70th after shooting 81 (+9) in the first round.
