Lynch & Warren Both Score Twice In Purdue's Spring Victory Against Butler

Feb. 19, 2011

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Marta Lynch and Jessica Warren both scored a pair of goals, leading Purdue women's soccer to an impressive 4-2 win against Butler in the spring season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at the Mollenkopf Athletic Center.

Butler got the scoring going early as Ali Backscheider scored at the eight-minute mark, but Purdue responded quickly as Marta Lynch scored an unassisted goal in the 15th minute that evened the match.

Physical play continued until the 44th minute when Jess Warren put Purdue ahead on a goal assisted by Lauren Montenegro that gave the Boilermakers the momentum heading into the half.

That momentum continued into the second half when Marta Lynch stole the ball from a Butler defender and notched her second goal at the 50-minute mark, putting the Boilers up 3-1. Later, Butler continued its struggles when it failed to clear a ball in its own half, resulting in a fairly easy score for Jess Warren, her second goal of the day.

Butler later put the finishing touches on the day's scoring with a very impressive 30-yard strike from Nikki Hafele that accounted for the final score of 4-2.

The Boilermakers continue their spring season Saturday, Feb. 26, when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Vanderbilt at 3 p.m. ET.
