WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's and women's track and field teams got things underway at the sixth-annual Mike Poehlein Invitational on Friday, holding the men's and women's hammer throw events at Rankin Track. The University of Louisville's Jere' Summers took home the women's title, while Illinois' Matt McHugh topped the men's field.
Summers led a group of three Cardinal throwers on the women's side as the top three collegiate finishers as she tossed 63.20 meters (207-04), while McHugh marked 61.83 meters (202-10) to lead the men's side.
Freshman Bre Fife was the top women's finisher for the Boilermaker women, tossing a career best 44.64 meters (146-05) to take home 10th place, while junior Bill Hardcastle led the Purdue men, finishing eighth with a throw of 53.84 meters (176-08).
