WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The fourth-ranked Purdue women's golf team is tied for sixth place after the first round at the Tiger/Wave Golf Classic, firing a team total of 303 on Friday. The Boilermakers were led by freshman Laura Gonzalez Escallon's even-par 72 which placed her in a tie for fourth individually.
After the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event co-hosted by LSU and Tulane, seventh-ranked Alabama holds a slim one shot lead over the field, while LSU's Tessa Teachman and the Crimson Tide's Brooke Pancake share the individual lead with a two-under par 70 score.
The Crimson Tide's 293, a five-over par score, is one stroke better than second-place No. 20 LSU and three shots better than No. 18 Virginia. Twenty-three teams make up the field of the three-day tournament.
Junior Thea Hoffmeister is tied for 16th after opening with a 74 at the par- 72 English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans, La. Sophomore Kishi Sinha fired a 77 and is tied for 47th, while Purdue's top-two golfers juniors Numa Gulyanamitta and Maude-Aimee LeBlanc both carded an 80 in the first round and are tied for 81st.
Freshman Paula Reto is playing as an individual and recorded a 75 to finish round one tied for 26th.
The classic resumes tomorrow at 8:50 a.m. ET off of No. 10 and 9 a.m. off on No. 1. The Boilermakers will play from hole No. 1 beginning at 9:50 a.m. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com and a daily recap will be posted to purduesports.com.
