WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team completed the second day of the Purdue Invitational on Saturday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
Junior Bhavani Tirumurti continued her unbeaten run through the singles portion of the tournament by bettering Penn State's Maria Prishylak 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Senior Michelle Sammons took down Lauren McCarthy from Penn State 6-2, 6-4 and defeated Michigan State's Amy Barton 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. Sophomore Remi Martin also added two wins to the cause as she defeated Penn State's Allie Hefter 6-1, 6-2 and Michigan State's Christine Miliken 6-1, 6-2.
Sophomore Kay Kay Magi earned her team-leading eighth win of the fall when she defeated Penn State's Kristen Roth 6-0, 7-5. Fellow sophomores Anna Dushkina and Jennifer Rabot also earned one singles win each. Dushkina beat Sarah Henderson from Penn State 6-1, 6-2 before falling to Michigan State's Elena Ivanova 6-3, 6-4. Rabot dropped her first match to Penn State's Amy Simidan 6-2, 6-4 before bouncing back with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision over Michigan State's Whitney Wilson.
The Boilermakers added two 8-0 wins in doubles competition. Sammons and Rabot teamed up to defeat Simidian and Roth, while Martin and Dushkina did the same to Henderson and Prishylak. McCarthy and Michaela Stracar earned an 8-6 victory over Magi and Tirumurti.
The Purdue Invitational concludes Sunday. Competition begins on the Basham Courts inside the Schwartz Tennis Center at 9 a.m. ET.
