PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Purdue men's and women's track and field teams finished up at the 115th-annual Penn Relays in grand fashion on Saturday, scoring high placings in each of their last two events.
Senior Ben Harpenau led the day off, grabbing third place in the collegiate championship division of the men's hammer throw. His top mark of 63.18 meters (207-03) is less than a meter off his top throw of the season, which leads the Big Ten, and was just more than a meter shy of second place.
The Purdue women's 4x800-meter relay squad captured the collegiate division title with their impressive mark of 8:49.10. Juniors Kristin Phillips and Nan Hammel, and sophomores Kristina Krasich and Lindsey McKnight were approximately 12 seconds off the Boilermakers' outdoor record in the event and would have snagged fourth place in the collegiate championship division had they run there.
The remainder of the Purdue track and field teams is set to compete at Butler's Stan Lyons Invitational this evening in Indianapolis. Results will be available at PurdueSports.com early Sunday morning as the meet isn't scheduled to conclude until 11:30 p.m. (EST).
